Brain stimulation via transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) technology - what Pharia uses - was FDA approved in 2008 and has over 15 years of clinical use behind it. It's considered a very safe procedure. Serious side effects, like seizures, are extremely rare (
<0.01%) and we take care to pre-screen for and minimize risk.
TMS is generally well-tolerated, but it can still be uncomfortable for some. It's non-invasive: the device is placed against your head while you're awake and seated. You'll feel a sensation on your scalp or inside your head (sometimes described as a 'poking' or 'rubber band snap'). This only happens during the few minutes of stimulation. You'll also hear a clicking noise as the machine runs, during which you can wear earplugs if helpful.
